WHAT IS BRDAA? The Bicycle Ride Directors' Association of
America (BRDAA) was founded in 1987 by a small group of
professional bicycle event promoters in Whittier, California.
The goals of the Association are to foster cooperation among
recreational ride promoters, offer an affordable and proper
insurance program and provide a forum for the exchange of
information and experience among the membership. BRDAA
maintains a master calendar of events to avoid conflicting
dates and to provide efficient scheduling of member events.
Today the membership is nation-wide and is comprised of both
profit and non-profit organizations. The BRDAA membership
includes bicycle clubs, one-day special event ride directors
and domestic and international tour operators. BRDAA benefits
both road and mountain bike fun rides and tours.
BRDAA MAILING A mailing list of ride participants has
been compiled from BRDAA member events. BRDAA currently
provides a co-op mailing to 45,000 cyclists throughout the
Southwestern United States. BRDAA plans include the
development of a nationwide mailing list. All BRDAA members
may contribute their regional and/or local mailing lists to
this nation-wide rider database. Contributors, in turn, will
receive access to the database equal to the names contriand
may request specific lists based on zip code
information.
BRDAA periodically conducts group
mailings of event flyers and the Bicycle Event Guide. For
specific information regarding BRDAA mailings, please contact
Sheila Lyons at the Association office.
BRDAA INSURANCE BRDAA has arranged a group policy for
one-day events, multi-day touring events and annual coverage
for bicycle clubs. The coverage is $2,000,000 per occurrence
$2,000,000 aggregate liability and $25,000 excess medical.
Higher limits on each are readily available. The liability
policy includes hired and non-owned automobiles as well as
host liquor liability coverage. The BRDAA policy does require
a specific waiver to be used. However, if you make a
reasonable attempt to have everyone sign a waiver but lose
one, miss someone, or a friend signs a waiver, the BRDAA
policy still provides coverage. There is no underwriting; a
quote will be given to you over the phone. There is a simple
one-page application and certificates are issued very quickly.
BRDAA also has the contacts to provide insurance for bicycle
racing, triathlons, exhibitions, concerts and most events.
Contact the BRDAA insurance chairman Ed Moore, at (800)
800-3256 or e-mail to http://www.bikelink.com/mail%20to:ed@haywoodinsurancel.com.
He will be able to answer all of your questions and give
you current rates for your event.
BRDAA CALENDAR This web page calendar lists specific
information on BRDAA events with links to their individual
event pages, and is free to BRDAA members. BRDAA members may
also purchase ad space in the Bicycle
Event Guide published by BRDAA member K.C. Butler and

RIDE RATING SYSTEM BRDAA has developed a ride rating system
which allows cyclists to compare the various levels of
difficulty found in BRDAA sanctioned events. By using the same
"yardstick" for each BRDAA event, riders can anticipate the
training and preparation required for a particular
event.
The BRDAA rating system consists
of one to six stars; one star representing a very easy ride,
progressing to six stars indicating a very difficult
ride.
